How to Reformat Your Indian Resume for Jobs Abroad — US, UK, Canada, Gulf

Published on June 17, 2026 • 6 min read

If you're using a standard Indian "biodata" or a colorful 3-page template to apply for jobs in North America or Europe, you are getting instantly rejected. International markets have very strict expectations for resumes. Here is how you must change your Indian resume to succeed abroad.

Remove Personal Information (Strict Rule for US/UK/Canada)

Due to strict anti-discrimination laws, you MUST remove your photo, date of birth, gender, marital status, religion, and father's name. Including any of these in a US or UK resume will often cause the recruiter to delete your file immediately to avoid liability. Keep only your Name, Phone Number, Email, and LinkedIn.

The Gulf Market Exception

If you are applying to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, or other Gulf nations, the rules are slightly different. These markets often DO prefer a professional photograph and a mention of nationality and date of birth. Tailor accordingly.

One Page is the Standard

Unless you have over 10 years of highly technical experience, keep your resume to one single page. North American recruiters value conciseness. Cut the lengthy objective statement and replace it with a 3-line professional summary.

Test Your International Resume

Before you apply for that expensive visa process, ensure your resume meets global standards.
