Resume Template for Freshers — Section by Section Guide
Published on May 19, 2026 • 5 min read
Writing a resume when you have no formal work experience is intimidating. Many freshers try to compensate by downloading visually complex templates or writing long, generic objective statements. This is a mistake. Let's build a high-impact fresher resume that gets noticed.
1. Header (Keep It Minimal)
Your header needs your name in bold, your phone number, a professional email (not coolguy123@gmail.com), your location, and links to your GitHub or LinkedIn profiles. Do not include physical addresses, date of birth, marital status, or a photograph. These are outdated and waste space.
2. Education (Put This First)
For freshers, your education is your primary asset. Put this section right at the top. List your degree, college name, branch, graduation year, and CGPA or percentage. If you have high marks or academic distinctions, highlight them. If your CGPA is weak, list relevant coursework or focus more on the projects section below.
3. Projects (The Core of Your Resume)
If you don't have work experience, your technical and academic projects are your proof of capability. List 2-3 significant projects you built during college or in your free time. For each project, describe what problem you solved, the technology stack you used, and the direct outcome. Avoid vague bullets; be highly specific.
4. Internships & Experience
If you completed summer internships, freelance assignments, or held major leadership roles in college clubs, list them here. Focus on what you actually achieved during your tenure rather than just your day-to-day duties. Show that you take initiative and get results.
5. Technical & Soft Skills
Group your skills logically. For example: Languages (Python, Java), Developer Tools (Git, Docker, VS Code), and Databases (MySQL). Avoid listing soft skills like "excellent communication" or "hard worker" as empty bullet points — demonstrate these skills through your projects and extracurricular activities instead.
